    About

Eric SmithMy name is Eric Smith. I’m a software developer, currently working for Logitech in their Video Security Systems division. I graduated from BYU with a degree in computer science in 1993, and have been working in the software industry since 1992.

Professionally, I’ve worked in C, C++, Java and C#. I’ve spent a lot of time previously on information retrieval and electronic publishing applications at Folio Corporation and NextPage, Inc.

This site exists so that I can have a place to publish programming articles, thoughts, rants, and applications that might occasionally be useful or interesting to other people — including my future self who, strangely, tends to forget things. If projects at work are in non-coding phases, I do stuff in my spare time to keep the daily coding quota up. Besides, these projects give me a chance to learn and experiment with things that I might not otherwise get to do.

After a while of building this site using an Ant script and XSLT, I switched it over to use WordPress to make posting a simpler process.

A “smithy” is the workplace of a smith, so “esmithy” is this particular smith’s electronic workplace.
