Humpty Dumpty’s Spring Break

I hope you all had a good Easter. It’s Friday and we’re still eating colored eggs. We ate boiled for breakfast, deviled for dinner and egg salad for lunch. I’m pretty sick of eggs.

Spring Break was last week. Eric took a few days off work and we painted the town red. First we went to Hill Air Force Base. They have a plane museum and the boys liked that.

The next day we went to a one ring circus — those two other rings make a big difference. To tell the truth it was pretty lame, but we ate cotton candy, nachos & popcorn so I shouldn’t complain. Ringmaster Becky kept coming out between each act with these stuffed animals who had seen many better days. She wasn’t really a ventriloquist — you could totally see her mouth move and she used pretty much the same voice for all her characters — a dog, baby, snake, horse all amazingly with the same voice. There was a juggling act and then here comes Becky, clowns, and Becky, a gymnast and more banter with Becky.  Eric and I groaned a little every time the other ring master said, “And let’s have another round of applause for Becky!”

On Saturday we went to BYU to see the football team’s final Spring practice. This is a yearly event called the Blue and White game. We never got to see the players though because Ethan fell off a cement wall (4 ft) hit his head, and we had to go to the hospital. Never a dull moment at the Smith’s house.

When we got to the emergency room Ethan started throwing up and was white as a sheet, but the nurse became most concerned when she looked at Ethan’s hands — they were blue. I had to reassure her that he was blue from Easter egg dye, not loss of circulation. They gave him a CAT scan and said he had a concussion but should be fine.

I was really scared for a little while. At the hospital I acted calm to reassure Ethan but after we got home and I cleaned the throw up off my shoes I had a good cry. A few hours after coming home Ethan was back to his computer obsessed old self. The hospital said I should only give him liquids for dinner, but after eating two bowls of Jell-o and a glass of Sprite he was mooching off everyone else’s plate. I knew at least for the rest of the day he’d be just fine.
