Hawaii without (really noticing) Garbage Cans

Normally, a few weeks further into summer, Shannon and I would be saying, “We really ought to do some kind of family vacation!” Then we’d try to figure out what and where and when, which is always the hard part for us. So in an uncharacteristic bit of pre-planning, we had the basics figured out clear back in January, and the trip completed a week into the summer break.

Boys on the Beach

It had been a long time since we were in Hawaii (remember the classic Hawaii by Garbage Cans, or the Photo Album when Gerrit joined us?), so we thought we’d visit Grandpa this year at his place on the Big Island.

I’m happy to present the world premier of our adventures — in which you’ll see that the golf cart is still a highlight. Enjoy!

  1. I feel like I have been on a vacation to Hawaii with you. What fun, I am so glad that you have the opportunity to enjoy such a beautiful place and visit your family as well. The photos brought back memories of our visit to Hawaii and I am glad you have taught your children the joy of messing with each other as you did with your brothers and sisters. My Day will be a little brighter as I reflect upon the blessings of this life.

  2. Amazing!! What a super video and beautiful scenery. I love seeing the family having fun. Charlayn

  3. Great video! Lots of that stuff looked really familiar – like maybe I’d been there or something. Fun seeing you all there in those spots. Looks like you all had a great time.

  4. I am so jealous. I love Hawaii. Looks like lots of family memories were created. I love the family pics. So brave of Afton to go on the zip line. Happy times.
