A deer, its normality in your life is probably based on how many times you\u2019ve gone hunting, but this deer was different. Tiny, frail and walking up and down Center Street, not a very good mix. By the time we saw the fawn it had gathered quite the entourage of concerned people, and some unconcerned people. Namely the police, I don\u2019t think any of us are a huge fan of road kill but they advised us to leave it alone in case it\u2019s mother came back for it. Most others left it at that; however this deer was wandering within view of our house, and we did not want to be the witness of some grizzly accident. Someone driving by informed us that the deer had been wandering around this area for at least a day. The likelihood of it\u2019s mother returning was slim. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

So we ferried it across the street, back and forth up and down. Like Charon on the river Styx issuing some poor soul to an unknown but probably unpleasant fate. To put it very plainly this deer’s future looked bleak and although I asked, my dad said we couldn\u2019t take it in. Personally I think he missed the best chance we had at inspiring a Disney original movie but I guess that’s besides the point, I mean this was a life or death situation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Soon some neighbors discovered our ventures and one of them who owned some land that might be good for the deer scooped it right up and whisked it away, and that was it. Until we learned of the deer’s condition and re-homing, the deer ended up living with a family down the street who had a big fenced yard and other animals. My parents were able to visit it and it acted just like a dog, a very big dog. Although it\u2019s future is still in question, for now the frail little deer I met this summer has a chance at growing old. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
